Managing Chronic Pain During the COVID-19 Pandemic

As you know, Covid-19 is impacting our healthcare system and economy. The long term effects are unknown. As the number of cases rises, the healthcare system will be put to the test. Even though there will be an influx of Covid-19 patients into the hospital and clinical system, patients suffering from other conditions and injuries will still need medical care.  Where can they go? What are their options? Should they visit their primary care physician, an urgent care, or go to the hospital and risk coming into contact with Coronavirus?

When it comes to treating neuro-musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, it's valuable to know what your options are.  We all know that the medical and clinical system will get bogged down in the coming weeks and months.  You need to know where you can go to have a condition addressed and treated without risking exposure.  With an acute or newer injury, visiting the hospital or urgent care may not be your best option. Let's be realistic: a broken bone, laceration, or closed head injury warrants a thorough medical check up in the ER.  But what do you do about those nagging injuries or chronic problems that keep you from feeling your best?

As a Specific Structural Chiropractor, I work with many folks who experience a myriad of health conditions — from neck pain and back pain, to headaches, disc herniations, and shoulder and hip injuries.  I take our patients through a process, which includes a complimentary consultation that allows me to get a better understanding of your condition. If everything makes sense and sounds reasonable, I will perform a detailed examination.  During the examination, x-rays will be taken to further assess your condition, along with other diagnostic tests.  If additional imaging is needed, like an MRI, I will refer you to a nearby imaging center that isn't affiliated with the local hospitals.  This reduces the time for scheduling the MRI, the cost, and reduces possible exposure to Corona virus.

Structural Chiropractic is a safe and gentle option for individuals dealing with everything from neck and back pain to headaches and acute neuromusculoskeletal injuries.

The U.S Department of Homeland Security deems chiropractic an essential healthcare service. Chiropractors play a vital role in the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions that would otherwise end up in urgent cares, ERs and hospitals.  The real heroes during this pandemic are the countless medical doctors, nurses and hospital staff who go to the frontline to save lives. As a structural chiropractor, I want to help by lightening the load of neuromusculoskeletal patients so urgent care professionals can focus on Covid-19.

  • I started seeing Dr. Andrew last summer after my Cross Fit coach listened to my complaints about my body and urged me to get a consultation. It’s now been almost a full year, and not only do I feel so much better physically—much less chronic pain—but I feel much more in touch and in tune with my body, due to the treatment he provides, and also the at-home stretching that he prescribed. Dr. Andrew is friendly and always takes the time to listen to how I’m feeling, and he never fails to amaze me at how he can assess my physical problems and use his training to correct them. I would recommend him to anyone who has pain and wants to feel better!

  • I’m very impressed with Dr. Gessert’s skill in adjusting my neck and spine; especially given the fact that I have had numerous orthopedic surgeries. Not only am I walking straighter, he also provided me with an ongoing strengthening plan to maintain the results I am happily experiencing. Highly recommend a visit to Pivotal Chiropractic.
